Warm Mustard Cheese Spread
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Servings: 16 servings (2 Tbsp per serving)

This spread is similar to a fondue, thick and cheesy with a distinct, zesty flavor of mustard. Serve warm, accompanied by crackers, bread or fruit. It is also perfect as a flavorful sandwich spread for roast turkey, ham or beef.
Ingredients
1 Tbsp. butter
¼ cup finely chopped onion
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1¼ cups whole milk, plus additional if needed
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 cups (8 ounces) finely grated Swiss cheese, divided
⅓ cup Lars Own® Swedish Style Spicy Brown Mustard
½ Tsp salt
Optional Toppings:
Lars Own® Wild Swedish Lingonberries
Crackers, cubed pumpernickel bread or sliced pears (optional)
Steps
- Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until tender but not brown, 3-4 minutes. Whisk cold milk and cornstarch together, then add all at once to the onion mixture. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly; reduce heat to low.
- Add 1¾ cups of the cheese, Lars Own® Swedish Style Spicy Brown Mustard and salt, stirring until smooth and completely melted. Do not allow to boil. If mixture is too thick, stir in 1-2 Tbsp additional warm milk. Pour mixture into a 2-cup broiler-safe baking dish; sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup cheese.
- Place spread under broiler to lightly brown surface, watching carefully, 2-3 minutes. If desired, top with Lars Own® Crispy Onions or Lars Own® Wild Swedish Lingonberries. Serve with crackers, cubed pumpernickel bread or sliced pears, if desired.
Cook's tips
Lars Own® Swedish Style Sweet & Mild Mustard can be used in place of the Spicy Brown Mustard, if desired.
